Can a Florida Live Scan background check be reused?
Sometimes, but it depends on the agency, the screening program, the purpose of the original submission and whether the receiving organization participates in a system that allows retained fingerprints or screening results to be shared.
A Live Scan submission is routed using an ORI or other agency-specific information. Because different employers, licensing boards and programs can require different routing, a prior fingerprint submission should not automatically be assumed to satisfy a new requirement.
When might a previous screening transfer?
Some Florida programs use centralized screening systems that may allow an eligible screening to be shared or retained for participating organizations. The requesting employer or agency determines whether your previous screening can be accepted or whether a new submission is required.
When are new fingerprints usually required?
You may need a new Live Scan appointment when the new employer or licensing agency requires a different ORI, the previous screening was completed for a different purpose, the prior record is not eligible for sharing, or the requesting organization specifically instructs you to submit new fingerprints.
What should you do before booking?
Ask the employer, licensing board or requesting agency whether an existing screening can be used. If they require new fingerprints, bring the ORI, OCA or screening instructions they provide so the submission is routed correctly.
